Seven Seas – Canada’s Crafters’ Companion at Craftrange – Coffee and Craft Club

Standard

Hey everybody,
My name is Carla and I am Gillian’s cousin from Canada. I am visiting and I have gotten to do some experimenting, making faux leather. Today I spent all day at the Coffee and Craft Club at Craftrange. It was great! What a nice bunch of ladies who welcomed me into the group.

I got started with Crafters Companion Kraft Card and sprayed it with glycerine and water and scrunched it up several times then ran it through the ebosser, after letting it dry thoroughly I took 3 colours of Distress Ink Pads and brushed them across the embossed card until I was happy with the look; sprayed it with Crafters Companion Spray and Shine; prepared a lining out of fabric and glued it in using Cosmic Shimmer glue. While that was drying, I prepared 3 signatures of paper to sew into my Faux Leather Booklet.
I decided to stamp a border stamp on some of the signature pages. To finish it up I will punch holes in the faux leather and the signatures and sew them together.

Meanwhile, my cousin Gillian was definitely not lazing around. She and her co- workers were busy preparing for the Craft Event this Saturday. Also Gillian made a sign for the new Chalk Paint that they have in store and is being demonstrated by Mark Gould on Saturday. I hear the stuff is all the rage!
After the staffs hectic day Gillian and I came home and I had a welcome LARGE cup of English Tea!GetAttachment (5)
Tomorrow I will post pictures of my finished Faux Leather booklet.
I am really looking forward to the demonstrations on Saturday, it is such a great opportunity to see the possibilities of all the wonderful products!
See you then!
Carla

Good Evening Crafters,
We are back, exhausted and excited from our trip to the Craft Hobby and Stitch trade fair in Birmingham. There were over 250 stands to drool over and lots of demonstrations to watch in awe. The first day we tried to look at EVERY stall to get an idea what we should buy and if there were any new trends.
Once back at the hotel we had a working evening meal, preparing orders to place and deciding which companies to revisit to place orders. It was almost midnight when we went to bed. I set my alarm for 6.15 and a message came up “the alarm is set for 6 hrs and 30 mins – not much rest for the wicked!
Breakfast at 7, leave hotel at 8, enter show at 9 with only 22 stalls to go back to!
There were a few demonstration of polymer clay (Fimo), some models but also beads, there were all amazing.

Other demonstrations included Spectrum Noir, Ebosser, Zentangle, Stamping, Mixed Media, Masking , Stencils and Sugar Craft to name but a few
So, what will you be seeing new in the jewellery section in the coming months?
We are expecting BEAUTIFUL diamante clasps which will team so well with the Tiara kits and components, new range of watch faces, new beads and charms.

We are still investigating new ranges of crystals and seed beads – watch this space!
Also we are all very excited about two new ranges of Deco Art paints, I can’t wait to get my hands on the acrylic paints which I feel will work so well on jewellery, there are four interference colours, which if small drops are placed onto a wet standard coloured base coat it will migrate and blend with the background and give amazing marbled enamel effects. Oh I can’t wait!
So, that is it for jewellery related stock, I will leave the crafty things for Janet to enthuse about.

Demonstration Dilemma!

Standard

Good Morning Crafters,
I am in an enviable dilemma, every Saturday Liz and I take it in turns to do demonstrations at Craftrange.
We have the freedom to pick what we would like to demonstrate and it is my turn today.
Here is my dilemma, I had originally thought of die cutting shapes out of thick card,I would use the ebosser machine, it is lovely to use and ours is at a very competitive price at the moment. Next I could decorate them with embossing powders, (I may have to use the gorgeous Frantage kits again!) and then coating them with something to seal and make them glossy (I was thinking of using Glossy Accents). Mmmmm endless possibilities I would enjoy that.
BUT
I went into the warehouse of Michael Toms Stationers (our parent company) to find some paper balls for a customer, I have known about them for years but only today did I notice that they had holes through them. They aren’t balls they are BEADS! So, I am thinking, whatever you can do on a flat piece of paper you can do on a paper bead. The lovely colours of Alcohol Inks to give colour and embossing powders for texture.
Oh the possibilities are endless but the working day too short to do both, bearing in mind we also have a full day Molly Blooms Workshop and an 80% off sale, I have to decide What I am going to do?
What would YOU do?
Will I have time to do both?
Call in to see what I have decided.
Don’t miss the next thrilling instalment of DEMONSTRATION DILEMMA!
